Fareham & Crofton’s 21-year old left-hander Tom Kent, pictured, toasted the end of three years of Geography studies at Reading uni with a maiden hundred.
And it couldn’t have been more significant as Fareham needed to halt a two-match losing start in County 1 and beat local rivals Burridge II.
They did just that, with Kent carrying his bat for 106 and Oli Southon hitting 61 (after taking 3-53) as Fareham chased down a Burridge total of 232-7 (Oli Wright 70) at Bath Lane to win by two wickets to spare.
There were two centuries at Allotment Road, where Chris Bolton’s 111 for Sarisbury Athletic proved in vain as OTs & Romsey pair Paul Longland (103) and Shane Vidler (95) swept the visitors past 259-6 to win by seven wickets.
New boys Bishops Waltham recorded their first CD1 victory when they posted 193-8 (Andy Wakely 43) and won by 37 runs after dismissing Ventnor II for 156 (Pierre Kriel 47).
