The club successfully raised more than £100,000 of funding to upgrade and modernise the facilities and the pavilion at the Heath.
A significant £75,000 was awarded as a share of National Lottery funding from Sport England, which has contributed towards the sporting legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games through its Inspired Facilities fund.
An additional £25,000 was awarded by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) through the cabinet approved community grant fund and £2,000 was awarded by the Hampshire Playing Fields Association.
Further funds have been raised from local businesses, England and Wales Cricket Trust, Biffa Award (which is managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts), Lloyds Bank Community Fund and Radian Housing Community Grant among others.
There has also been immense support from Petersfield Town Council, EHDC, and a number of Hampshire County Council councillors.
The club, founded in 1751, has been providing cricket on the Heath for more than 150 years. New changing rooms, a social area, showers and toilets, including facilities for the disabled, will be installed in the club’s 1970s pavilion. A new drainage system has been completed to mitigate the risk of flooding to the south east corner of the ground, and mobile covers have been purchased.
Petersfield chairman James Stratford-Tuke said: “We were delighted to have secured this investment. We have been able to make considerable progress but the all-important part of delivering a refurbished pavilion so that all can all play at the Heath is close to fruition.
“This is a major step in our plan to upgrade our facilities. It not only means that we can modernise our premises to match the quality of our senior players, colts and coaches but it will help us move forward to recruit new members, especially women and the disabled, and to work more closely with the local community.
“We will have a facility that will not only benefit the cricketing community but the wider community in general. We are working hard to deliver this project and are very excited by the forthcoming season.”
