Henry Don cracked 125 only to finish on the losing British Gas Southern League Division 1 side as Ventnor overhauled bottom club Tichborne Park’s 235 to win by three wickets.
Don’s third SPL century contained four sixes and 14 fours, but after he was fourth out at 182, Tichborne lost their way – and their wickets as the last seven went down for 53 runs, with teenager George Willis taking 4-68 and spinner Jamie Miller 3-27.
Rob Snell (33), Jamie Miller (39) and Neil Westhorpe (35) did much of the spadework, but Ventnor’s eventual victory owed much to Toby Corbin (45) and Dan Russell, whose unbeaten 18 got the islanders’ home with three balls to spare.
Tichborne Park are effectively 19 points behind Rowledge, whose 52-run win over Liphook & Ripsley owed much to Victorian Tom Treble, from Geelong, who made 123.
Rowledge defended 241-7 against Liphook & Ripsley, who were dismissed for 189 (Ryan Covey 89).
