Mark Lavelle will be looking to lead from the front again when, as the club’s new captain, he takes newly promoted Calmore Sports into Southern Electric Premier League, Division 1 cricket this summer.
Lavelle, 24, enjoyed an outstanding 2014 season, scoring 482 runs and taking 32 wickets. His performances with the bat and ball played a key part in helping Calmore finish third behind SPL2 winners Rowledge and Hartley Wintney last summer.
Calmore were somewhat unexpectedly promoted following Hambledon’s demotion because of deteriorating ground marks at Ridge Meadow. He takes over the captaincy from Darren Vann, who had been in charge for five years.
Talking about his captaincy appointment Lavelle said: “I’ve been part of this club for 16 years now and have progressed through the system ay Loperwood Park, so it’s great to have the opportunity to skipper the side. Although I am still quite young, I’ve been around the first team for some time and played under some good captains.
We’ve got some exiting young talent coming through and we’ll be up for the challenge for playing in a higher standard of cricket.”
Two left-armers have joined the Calmore set, Callum Holloway from Totton & Eling, and Steve Wright, from Sparsholt.
