An unbeaten 78 from Dom Hand proved the star turn as Lymington earned a ‘winning draw’ from a tepid ECB Southern Premier League derby at New Milton.
Hand contributed handsomely to Lymo’s 192 in 64 overs, with the Milton reply being 136 in 59 overs.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors lost Ben Rogers for eight before Ryan Scott (22) and Richie Lock (34) steadied the ship.
New Zealander Terry Crabb’s stint at the crease was brief and when Lock departed with the score on 66, matters caved in rapidly.
Ed Ellis, Jack Roberts and Cam Grierson were all dismissed for the gain of just 10 runs, Matt Metcalfe’s 11 putting Lymo on a perilous 94 –8.
But at that point skipper Simon Beetham (21) entered the fray and he and Hand increased to 149 the score, before Ed Freeman saw out the innings impressively with Hand.
For New Milton, in-form spinner Joe Hall took 4-56 from a marathon 25-over stint and Nick Elliott three for 61.
In reply, Tom Arnold and Nick Park were quickly dislodged with the hosts on nine, only for captain James Park to make an unbeaten 62, his partnership with Ryan Beck (38) getting matters back on track.
Elliott (13) and Ollie Shrubsole lasted for 27-ball spells but in the end New Milton had to be content with 136 for six and seven points for their league tally.
Metcalfe impressed with two for 38, the paceman bowling eight maidens in 25 overs. Lock also took a pair of wickets, this time for 47 runs.
