Fourteen year old Ethan Taylor became the youngest Southern Electric Premier League's five-wicket taker when he took 5-62 for Totton & Eling against Division 1 leaders Hook & Newnham Basics. But his side was on the receiving end of a 333-run mauling - and an eventual 37 runs defeat - at the KGV.
Taylor had one victim stumped and four caught, among them Kieran Thomson, who smashed 157 - on the day he found he hadn't been picked for Hampshire Under-17s !
Thomson hit eight maximums and 14 fours in his career-best knock and dominated a century stand with Matt Love (65) as Hook raced to 333-9.
The SPL1 pacesetters needed all those runs as well because relegation troubled Totton came back with a creditable 295-5, Tom Arnold hitting a best yet 129 not out, including 17 boundaries.
Totton were 142-4, but a livewire 60 off 32 balls by Josh Metcalfe (one six and nine fours) in partnership with the classy Tom Beresford (33) produced a decent response. Ethan, pictured with his father, James Taylor, will buy his celebratory round of drinks ... in 2019 !
