Graham Noble cracked a glorious and career best 146 as Langley Manor eased their relegation concerns and at the same time dented Paultons’ Southern Electric Premier Division 2 promotion prospects with a 78-run victory at Whitemoor Lane.
The Manor were 37-4 (Jack Murrell 3-45) when Noble got his runs – six maximums, alongside 17 boundaries – as Paultons wilted on the fringe of the New Forest sun.
Coming in second wicket down, Noble stayed until Langley Manor were 239-9 after which Simon Peters biffed a five-four 32 to take the visitors to 260-8.
Paultons’ reply never got doing as Jamie Brown (3-25) cut into the top order, leaving John Robinson (27) and Tony Richman, with a boundary biffed 45, to keep the innings alive. Paultons were eventually dismissed for 182.
Teenager Harry Tulk and Stu Shapland hit late order half-centuries as promotion chasing Old Tauntonians & Romsey dug themselves out of a hole against Hursley Park at The Quarters.
OTs were in some dome difficulty at 116-7 – former Dorset seamer Martyn Ford (4-23) taking three wickets with the new ball – when the student and master came together.
Sixteen year old Tulk, who scored a maiden Hampshire League century last month, made 60 and Shapland 53 – the pair adding 70 to take OTs to 210 all out.
Chris Wheeler (39) and Ford (47) took Hursley to 82-2, but the former’s departure to a surprising run-out decision turned the game.
Hampshire’s Chris Wood (3-27) grabbed three wickets with their reply at 161, after which Jody Brown snared 3-27 to end the innings at 175.
The win kept OTs in touch with SPL2 leaders Portsmouth, who chased down Tichborne Park’s 186 to win by three wickets.
Martyn Cheyney (34) was among several TP players to make starts, but losing three of the top five batsmen to run outs hardly aided Tichborne’s cause.
Jack Marston (84) underpinned Portsmouth’s victory quest – his 93-run stand with Harry Collier (43) providing the platform from which the visitors – despite Doug Butler’s 3-43 – were able to win.
Chris Vaughan was the star as Bashley (Rydal) II romped to a fourth successive win, their three-wicket victory leaving Hambledon fastened to the Premier Division 2 basement.
He ripped out Hambledon’s middle-order, finished with figures of 5-25 and then hit a key 42 to underpin Bashley’s run chase.
Among Vaughan’s victims were top scorers Shane Nkomo (40) and Will Mann (35) as the visitors dipped to 166 all out, pace ace Sean Read and Ross Grierson taking two wickets each.
Bashley were cruising it at 92-1 through Vaughan and Simon Ridley (29), but lost seven wickets before clinching the win points.
Tom Gates hit 96 and five-wicket Wayne Royan were Fawley’s match winners in the close run affair at Sparsholt.
Fawley defended 222 (Jon Vokes 4-38) after Lewis Dunford (53) and Andy Worth (36) had given Sparsholt a sniff of victory at 167-5 (Mike Haworth 54).
But Royan’s spell of 5-39, aided by two late wickets by Dave Streather, kept Sparsholt down to 215 all out.
