Maiden teenage centurion Ollie Perrin went on a boundary hitting spree, smashing a career-best 129 not out to sweep Totton & Eling to a first Southern Premier League Division 2 win of the season over OTs & Romsey.
He peppered the Southern Gardens boundary with seven sixes and 13 fours and, almost single-handedly, took the Eels to a much needed five-wicket victory.
But chasing down OTs 214, a relatively modest total on Totton’s compact batter friendly ground, wasn’t that straight forward.
Perrin, 17, taking time off from his BTEC Sport studies at Dorset’s Clayesmore School, saw three team-mates fall cheaply (two of them to Steve Smith 2-40) before unleashing his one-man assault on the OTs bowlers.
Finding a reliable partner in Tom Rouse (39), Perrin went to town blasting the bowling in all directions, benefitting from a straight-forward Keith Trodd drop behind the stumps before he had reached fifty.
His unbeaten 129 came off 115 balls and carried Totton to victory with ten overs to spare.
OTs made a similarly indifferent start with Dan Collier (4-30) getting amongst the top order.
Charlie King (30) dropped anchor, but it was largely due to the Newman brothers, Rob (86) and Pete (39) that OTR made 214 before Mark Mbofana 3-28) and Ethan Taylor finished off the innings.
