Basil Akram smashed four sixes and 15 fours in a scintillating 109 not out to lead Sarisbury Athletic to a nine-wicket victory over Hook & Newnham Basics, who have lost both their opening Southern Premier League Division 1 matches.
The Loughborough University student, who has enjoyed a run storming start to the season, blew Hook away to give Sarisbury victory with 20 overs to spare.
He sent boundary shots flying all around the compact Allotment Road ground, enjoying a 119-run opening partnership with Ryan Covey (49).
Earlier, Hook’s normally formidable top order failed to get going, with skipper Matt Love, who made 56, the only player to make his mark.
Akram (2-22), teenager Josh Stewart-Hill (2-22) and later Phil Jewell (3-24) reduced Hook to 123-9, before a half-century last-wicket stand between Aniket Divecha (28) and Glenn Williams (24) raised the total to 181.
With Akram in such form, that was never going to be enough …
Bournemouth suffered a 49-run defeat at the hands of Andover at London Road.
Scott Alexander (28) and James O’Gorman (48) gave Andover a solid platform before teenage left-arm spinner Robbie Pack (3-55) removed the pair and Glyn Treagus.
But Max Romar-Lee (30) and Matt Knight (21) chipped in as Andover totalled 179 with Jake Hurley chipping in with a couple of wickets (2-27).
Luke Matthews (52) was the only batsman to make a significant impact as Bournemouth suffered from too many soft dismissals and fell short at 130.
