Basingstoke and North Hants captain Chris Froud admitted it is frustrating times at the moment for his side, despite the fact they have opened their season with three straight wins in the Southern Electric Premier League Division One, writes Graham Merry of the Basingstoke Gazette.
The Bountymen have made hard work of the hat-trick of victories and Froud said: "We are just getting over the line at the moment and we know as a team there are things we need to improve on, which makes it frustrating for us."
This weekend, Basingstoke restricted visiting Totton and Eling to 177, but then only got home with 11 balls to spare.
Froud said: "I would have batted first if I won the toss, but when we got out there it proved to me difficult than we expected, but we have won again and have to be pleased with that."
This week third placed Basingstoke travel to newly promoted Rowledge and Chris Oliver misses the trip and so Froud is looking to bring in another middle order batsman. Dean Nurse looks the most likely candidate having top scored for the second XI in their last two games.
Looking ahead to the game Froud said: "We are looking to keep our winning run going, but know it is going to be easy there."
Hook and Newnham Basics maintained top spot after another comprehensive victory, this time over visiting Calmore Sports. The home side won the game by six wickets, after they bowled out the visitors who won the toss and decided to bat for just 74.
Hook will now look to continue their perfect start to the season when they travel to fifth placed Andover at London Road. Their north Hampshire rivals won their opening game of the campaign against Liphook, but have lost their last two outings against Totton and Eling and Rowledge.
When the sides met last season in Andover, Shane Brewer had a great game as took a magnificent seven wickets as the home side were bowled out for 121 which helped Hook to a four wicket win.
The reverse game at Hook was started, but then abandoned after a massive thunderstorm flooded the outfield. For the trip to Andover, Josh Buckingham will make his first team return after recovering from a knee injury and Matt Buckingham is also back after missing the game against Calmore Sports. Joe Allnutt, who took over the wicket-keeping gloves last Saturday, returns to the second XI, while top spin bowler Kevin Poulter is unavailable.
Hook skipper Matt Love is taking nothing for granted as they travel to their north Hampshire rivals and said: "We respect Andover as they have beaten us before over the years. We know they have a number of players who take the game away from you in the space of 15 overs. So we are expecting a tough game, but we are playing well at the moment and want to stay at the top of the league."
Hartley Wintney are determined to end their winless start to their SPL1 campaign when they entertain Calmore Sports.
Hartley captain Jamie Teale said: "We are playing at home and Calmore have twice been bowled out for less than 100 this season and I hope we can do the same at our place this weekend. We beat then twice last season, so the omens are good, but we have a number of players out."
Hartley will be without top all rounder Scott Baldwin, as well as wicket keeper Richard Hill and Danny Plume. Baldwin, who has started the season in fine form will be a big miss, but top opening bowler Tommy Flanders is back, while Scott Carter will be behind the stumps and Julian Ford returns to the line-up.
