Rain saved Totton & Eling from relegation from Southern Electric Premier Division 1 – but it failed to spare neighbours Calmore Sports from the drop.
Totton’s game with Hook & Newnham Basics was abandoned with the Ells facing a crushing defeat.
But Calmore were beaten by 90 runs at Basingstoke & North Hants and are relegated alongside Hartley Wintney, whose match at Rowledge was washed out.
Totton must be wondering quite how they escaped as they were on the brink of a thumping defeat by SPL1 runners-up Hook & Newnham Basics when the rains came.
They were 60-5 in response to Hook’s daunting 256 when play was abandoned, but only needed an abridged target to collect the bonus points they needed to scramble across the safety line.
Teenager Kieran Thomson clearly relishes facing the Totton bowlers as his 122, which contained a six and 15 fours, was his second century against them this season.
He shared a 91-run start with Ben Thane (30) and later enjoyed support from Matt Buckingham (27), Nick Willcock (21) and Spencer Champ (22 not out) as Hook batted Totton out of the contest.
The evergreen Chris Thomason took 4-27 for Totton, whose top order caved in against lead Premier Division 1 pace bowler Champ, whose 2-24 return took his season’s tally to 41.
Promising teen Ollie May, who has taken 33 Hampshire League wickets this term, whipped in with 3-28 before the rain saved Totton’s skins – and probably their immediate Premier 1 future.
But there was no such escape for Calmore Sports, who make an immediate return to Division 2 cricket next season.
They lost half their wickets for only 16 runs before being bowled out for 90 and being beaten by an identical margin by Basingstoke, who had lost their previous four games.
The Bountymen they lost Steve Bucksey early on as Calmore’ pair Steve Wright (1-16) and Allan Hurst (0-13) kept things tight for opening overs.
Top scorer Richard Vinn (44) and Max Harsham (21) built the foundation for the innings with a stand of 57 for the second wicket.
With the departure of Harsham, Mitch Stokes hit a quick fire 37 from 29 balls which included two sixes, before he became the first of four victims for spinner James Rose (4-27)
Martyn James also kept the scoreboard ticking over with 27 from 23 balls and he too hit a couple of sixes.
Craig Willamson (27) added more useful runs as Basingstoke reached 180-9 from their 50 overs.
The visitors were soon in trouble as Mark Lavelle was dismissed on the second ball of the innings by James (2-12) and then fellow opening bowler Chris Chandler (3-7) joined in as Calmore were left reeling at 16-5.
Tom Pegler (37) and Callum Holloway (27) added 50 for the sixth wicket, but once they were parted the writing was on the wall and Calmore were bowled out for 90 and with it were relegated.
Hartley Wintney were similarly unable to win their final game of the season at Andover and so they too suffered relegation straight back to Division Two.
The village side went down by 98 runs as they were bowled out for 125 chasing 224 for victory.
Hartley made a dream start when leading 756-run scorer David Taylor was bowled for a duck by Basingstoke & North Hants bound Chris Jolley.
However, Hampshire left-hander Tom Alsop pictured proved to be the star of the show as he top scored with 91 from 131 balls and hit nine fours and one six.
He shared a second wicket stand worth 54 with Craig Ross (16) and a fifth wicket partnership of 76 with Darron Augustus (33).
The Hartley bowlers found it hard to take wickets as Scott Baldwin managed to get a brace as Andover scored 223-8 from their 50 overs.
Hartley’s reply was soon on the rocks as they slumped to 24-3.
Australian Aaron Wivell was the lone batsman to get to grips with the Andover attack as he scored 73 from 90 balls, which included one six and eight fours.
Dan Wrenn was the only other player to make it into double figures as Mike Adams dismissed the lower order with stunning figures of 5-26.
Rowledge (158-7) had their match with Liphook & Ripsley abandoned as did champions New Milton, who were 77-3 against Bournemouth when rain sent the players scurrying from the field.
