Having lifting themselves off the Premier 1 basement with a crucial win at Hartley Wintney, Totton & Eling find themselves embroiled in a ‘six pointer’ against bottom side Liphook & Ripsley at Southern Gardens.
There’s barely a whisker between the three sides at the bottom, with Calmore Sports and Totton (both 63) one point ahead of Liphook.
Totton captain Richard Dibden says: “We need to kick on from here.
“Last week at Hartley Wintney was a great team performance, and an absolutely crucial win to bring us back into the pack.”
Dibden had special praise for match winner Tom Beresford.
“Tom’s unbeaten 50 at Hartley Wintney was superb in the circumstances.
“Once he got to 20, he played some superb shots and showed the ability he has to see us home under pressure.
“That fifty will do his confidence the power of good.”
Ironically, Beresford is at the Stonehenge Summer Solstice so is touch and go for the Liphook game.
Totton & Eling: Dibden, Arnold, Fletcher, J Taylor, Jenkin, Hamid, E Taylor, Mellett, Metcalfe, Ennew, Beresford
Off-spin all-rounder Matt Hooper will be at the helm when Andover host Calmore Sports in the other basement battle at London Road.
Hooper, who has returned to Andover after a spell playing Devon Premier League cricket at Plymouth, takes over from father-to-be Mike Adams, who has his ‘hands full’ with the arrival of twins in the next few weeks.
Andover are nine points ahead of Calmore and Totton after Dave Taylor’s third century of the season won the Lions a key victory at Bournemouth last week.
Calmore have spent the past week picking up the pieces after being shot out for 59 by Rowledge last week, with skipper Mark Lavelle keeping team selection close to his chest.
Andover: M Hooper, Treagus, Augustus, Taylor, A Hooper, Arnold, Souter, Roberts, Knight, Adams, Foy.
