Bashley (Rydal) seconds, who have spent most of the season propping up the Southern Electric Premier Division 2 table, pulled off the summer's biggest shock by shattering table topping Portsmouth seven-match winning start.
They reduced the Southsea seasiders from 141-2 to 219 all out and gleefully polished off the target to win by two wickets with four balls to spare. It didn't look so promising for Bashley when Will Smitherman (64) and Jack Marston (36) got Portsmouth off to a 100-run start. But Neil Taylor (4-35) and Andy Neal (3-42) gradually worked their way through the innings.
Bashley's successful run chased largely hinged on third-wicket pair Callum Maher (52) and Andy Neal, whose unbeaten 49 proved a match winner. The visitors, chasing a third straight win, lost three wickets for eight runs at one stage - former Portchester all-rounder Richard Locke taking 3-60 - but Neal's key late half-century stand with Chris Gates (16) proved decisive.
Old Tauntonians & Romsey climbed into the second promotion place after a high scoring win over Sparsholt at Romsey.
Their 31-run win coincided with Paultons suffering a 13-run defeat at Fawley, where host spin duo Wayne Royan and Wayne Smith shared six wickets.
OTs batted consistently down the order, with the watchful Jodey Brown (42) partnering Hampshire’s Chris Wood (22) and Rob Newman (32) as the Romsey side progressed to 161-3. Will Edwards (55) and young Harry Tulk (37) really fired OTs onto a strong position at 259-7.
Sparsholt gave the run chase a decent crack, with Michael Haworth (53), Stuart Tognarelli (26) and Kyle Ruffell (27) steering the visitors to 121-2.
Lewis Dunford (35), Tom Foster, Andy Worth and Alex Dilley kept the pot boiling, but with Wood taking 3-28, Sparsholt fell short at 225-7.
Runs were at a comparative premium at Holbury, where Fawley’s 167 proved enough against visiting Paultons.
Andy Parratt (58) top scored in Fawley’s 167, though ninth-wicket pair Callum Earl (21) and Dean Godden (13) added important runs later on.
Paultons were comfortably placed at 65-1 through Nigel Feltham (35) and Lee Wateridge (20), but Tony Richman (33) apart the remainder of the batting fell away against spin pair Royan (3-16) and Smith (3-39). Paultons were dismissed for 154.
A crushing 112-run defeat by Tichborne Park has left Langley Manor fastened to the foot of Premier Division 2.
They were dismissed for 152 after three batsmen had made half-centuries in Tichborne’s hefty 264 at Knellers Lane. George Ayling (51) got the scoreboard ticking with a typically breezy knock at the top of the order, after which Tichborne dominated. Queenslander Justin Reid (60) took the score to 156 before the Allam brothers Tom (39) and Will (54) came together to add 61.
Rob Noble completed an SPL best 5-38 before Adrian Pond (23) helped the final total to 264 (Simon Peters 4-48).
The evergreen Kevin Cresswell and Jack Budd bagged ducks at the top of the Langley Manor order before Conor Browne (51) and Graham Noble (49) consolidated. But from 88-3, the Manor capitulated against Doug Butler (5-20) who sent them tumbling to 152 all out.
