Fair Oak have been in Southern League exile for a year – but they wasted no time in bouncing back with a record breaking 206-run victory at Havant II.
Ed Kemp (117) and Tom Hockenhull (108) shared a new Division 3 second-wicket partnership of 234 as last year’s Hampshire League champions piled up 359-3 against a Havant side so short they had to get the council groundsman to play for them !
Havant responded with a 63-run start, but only Andy Galliers (65) defied Asad Abbas, whose 5-27 return sent the hosts tumbling to 153 all out.
Langley Manor came out tops in the joust with Hursley Park – the pair having been relegated from SPL2 last season.
Joe Theobold (28) top scored in Hursley’s 147, which needed a late burst from Neil Sutherland (23). New Zealander Dave Castle hit a half-century as the Manor clinched a five-wicket win.
Michael Ruffell, younger brother of Sparsholt bowler Kyle, hit 43 on debut for Gosport Borough.
But his side’s 174 (John Adams 56) was overhauled by St Cross Symondians II, who won by five wickets at the Green Jackets Ground.
Jamie Aldridge took 4-34 for St Cross, whose victory push came on the back of Matt Haworth (57) and Robbie Hadfield|(48).
Waterlooville’s bowlers came under fire from Lymington II, with Kieron Moors (68) and Richard Locks (63) top scoring in a 293-run total.
Guy Layman took 4-49 as Ville were dismissed for 188 (James Scutt 51).
Basingstoke’s visit to Ryde was called off due to an unfit ground.
