Topping Southern Electric Premier Division 3 is like the proverbial hot potato : now one seems to have it for long. Now away day blues are threatening Trojans’ promotion chances.
They lost their 11th game in the last 15 trips away from Stoneham lane, when basement side Alton II beat them by 52 runs.
Despite teenager Jordan Wright getting 5-13, Alton’s 152 all out proved far too many for Trojans, who collapsed to 100 all out.
The result enabled previous leaders Waterlooville – three wicket winners at Lymington II – to leapfrog to the top.
Australian Sam Williams (59) and Max Goddard (47 not out) played the key roles as the Ville overhauled Lymington’s 195. Second from bottom, Lymington are now in serious relegation trouble.
South Wilts II (133) also went down – Gosport Borough beating them by five wickets at Privett Park, where Portsmouth’s pre-season soccer friendly on the opposite side of the fence hardly made it an afternoon conducive for cricket.
Callum Coombs (70) pointed Basingstoke & North Hants to a six-wicket win over Totton & Eling II, while James Christian (60) and Cam Prentice (53) laid the foundations as Havant’s 264 proved 38 runs too many for St Cross Symondians, despite James Brooke’s 78. Graham Burns (5-29) was Havant’s match winner.
