Trojans’ bowlers were flogged all around Rowlands Avenue as Premier Division 3 title favourites Waterlooville piled up a daunting 305-8 in the top-of-the-table clash.
To compound their misery Trojans – who invited the Ville to bat – were shot out for 74, having been nine wickets down for 52.
James Scutt (74) underpinned a sound Ville start, sharing partnerships with Tim Jackson (24) and South Australian Sam Williams (42).
But Trojans fought their way back into the game, capturing four wickets for 14 runs as the Ville dipped to 161-5.
In-form Alex Shephard seized the opportunity to regain Waterlooville’s grip on proceedings, making a timely 90 not out.
His key sixth-wicket stand with Sam Hillman (29) enabled Ville to bat Trojans out of the game.
Hillman (4-22) and John Hudson (4-24) sliced through the Trojans’ batting to leave the visitors 52-9 before Jamie Donaldson (25) applied the long handle at the end.
Waterlooville’s new found position at the top of SPL3 was strengthened when lowly Totton & Eling II mowed their South Wilts’ counterparts down for 78 to land an unexpected seven-wicket win.
Luke Mooney (5-30) was the architect of SW downfall, while Blake Darney (2-10) and Dan Collier (2-17) took two wickets each.
Sam Metcalfe (28, Gareth Schultze (22) and Chris Blake (17 not out) gleefully polished off the runs.
Gosport Borough’s promotion prospects were similarly dented when Lymington II – last year’s Hampshire League winners- came to Privett Park and beat them by 26 runs.
Oli Kelly (56) and Conor Moors (38), who shared an important fifth-wicket stand, aided by a handy 27 not out by Ed Molloy late on, steered Lymington to 223-9.
Gosport never got any telling partnerships together and once Queenslander Blake Maher (41) was dismissed they lost wickets all too regularly.
Kieran Moors did the damage with a 5-34 return, three of his victims wiping Gosport out in the 41st over.
St Cross Symondians II came out tops in the bottom two showdown with Alton II, who collapsed to 54-6 chasing their Winchester hosts’ 188 all out.
Fergus Haycock (40) and James Brooke (39), aided by 45 extras, shared a significant fourth-wicket stand for St Cross, who again had to rally from 146-7 to post 188.
Tristan Alsop (22), who impressed for the Hampshire Academy a week earlier, repaired the damage caused by Mike Salmon (5-17) and Joe Paul (3-39).
Jamie Aldridge (4-23) ripped into Alton’s top order, leaving Joe Paul (36) and Mike Salmon (40) to add 70 and provide the visitors with a more respectable 132 all out.
Basingstoke & North Hants II lie one point above St Cross Symondians despite losing by seven wickets at Havant.
Teenagers Joe Oates (67) and Max Harsham (36) stone for the Bountymen, for whom George Chaffer (39) made later runs.
But Havant, for whom Jack Davies (4-52) and Jez Ord (3-21) shone with the ball, chased down the target with some ease. James Robson hit an unbeaten 60 in the run chase.
