South Wilts created a piece of Southern Electric Premier League history when their second team thrashed relegated Alton II by eight wickets to clinch the Division 3 title.
It is the first time a club has ever won two separate championships in the same season, Tom Morton's first team having already clinched a fourth successive Premier Division title.
Teenager Will Wade pictured was the hero of South Wilts' win over Alton II, taking 4-20 before cracking an unbeaten 103 in the successful run chase.
He shared a century second-wicket stand with Ben Draper (40) as SW comfortably chased down Alton’s 173 all out.
Needing six points to be assured of the title, South Wilts were frustrated by Richard Anthony’s 70, which took Alton to 130-4. But Wade’s off-spin prompted a collapse which saw the visitors slump to 173 all out, Wade taking 4-20 and fellow spinner Tom Pearce 3-29.
South Wilts needed 174 to win but 125 to pick up the one remaining point to clinch the league title.
Tom Pearce was to fall early but it was again William Wade who led the way with a very well paced innings, punishing the bad ball and rotating the strike with ease. Ben Draper added his attacking stroke play to a 108 run partnership before falling for 40.
Jo Cranch joined Wade and was content to play a supportive role as Wade eased through to a superb 103 not out. His innings included 14 boundaries as South Wilts reached their target for just two wickets down in just the 32nd over.
After three seasons of finishing third, Tom Pearce's side have finally secured a deserved promotion and finished the season as emphatic champions!
Trojans finished runners-up, but on-going concerns on long standing security issues at their Stoneham Lane ground may yet affect their accreditation and, with it, promotion prospects.
Trojans were 131-6 at Gosport Borough when play was abandoned, while Havant were bowled out for 185 (Ollie Jones 72) by Lymington, who didn’t get a chance to bat.
The only other game to produce a result was at the Green Jackets Ground, where George Chaffer hit an unbeaten 63 to enable Basingstoke & North Hants to beat St Cross Symodians II (170, Kevin Neave 70) by virtue of a faster scoring rate. They needed to chase down 144 to win.
Waterlooville's scheduled home match with relegated Totton & Eling II was called off without a ball being bowled.
