England Under-19 captain Joe Weatherley is confident he’ll be fit to open the batting for the Hampshire Academy against Bashley (Rydal) on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground, despite suffering from a badly bruised big toe.
Weatherley underwent X-rays on his left foot after the ball struck him on his tie while he was batting in Hampshire’s heavy Second XI Championship defeat by Gloucestershire in Cheltenham.
“I thought I’d broken the toe, but it’s bruised and painful – but I should be okay to play against Bashley,” he said.
The Academy are unchanged, but Bashley make may switches of personnel after last week’s defeat a the hands of Alton.
Academy: Weatherley, Duggan, Alsop, Gorvin, Goodwin, Taylor, McCoy, Crane, Evans, Murray, Barber.
