WEAKENED Lymington proved no match for Southern Electric Premier Division rivals Alton and were on the receiving end of a 77-run defeat at Jubilee Playing Fields.
Chasing Alton’s 240-6, Lymington, who were missing several key players including the suspended Darren Cowley, suffered a middle-order collapse and were dismissed for 163, writes Neil Perrett.
Earlier, skipper Simon Beetham had openers Alex Hammond (13) and Edd Alexander (26) caught behind by Ed Ellis as Alton reached 67-2 and laboured to 108-3 from 41 overs at lunch.
However, although Beetham (2-68), Ryan Scott (2-80) and Damien Edwards (2-24) were among the wickets, Michael Heffernan (73) and Scott Myers (50) helped Alton post a challenging total.
Scott (52) and Edwards (27) shared 60 for the second wicket as Lymington progressed to 66-1 and then 113-2.
But once Scott and Edwards had departed, only Hampshire’s Lewis McManus (32) offered any resistance as Lymington lost five wickets for the addition of just 14 runs.
Lymington’s brittle batting line up had no answer as Julian Ballinger (6-46) ripped through them to cap a miserable start to their time pennant campaign.
