Hampshire off-spin prospect Brad Taylor is clocking up the air miles as he prepares to join the England Under-19 cricket team for the upcoming International series in Western Australia.
He estimates that he will have flown half way round the globe in three or four days before he touches down in Perth on Thursday morning. The 18-year old, who played three times on Hampshire’s pre-season tour of Barbados, reckons he will have flown close on 16,000 miles and spent best part of 30 hours in the air by the time he arrives in Australia.
“Our trip back from Barbados took eight hours and it’s a good 21 (hours) from London Heathrow to Perth, via Addis Ababa, so I’ll be pretty jaded by the time we get there,” he said.
But Taylor is relishing the excitement of it all. “I’m not complaining at all : it’s a fantastic time of my life, playing in Barbados one day and then looking forward to playing the Aussies on a world famous Test ground a week or so later. It doesn’t get much better than that,” he smiled.
Taylor barely had time to wash his kit and re-pack his bag before he linked up with the England squad.
“We landed at Heathrow at 6.30 on Monday morning and I have to be at the hotel ready to meet up with the England lads this (Tuesday) evening, so it’s all a bit hectic. The washing machine has been doing over-time and I’m becoming a dab hand on the ironing board !” he laughed.
Taylor is joined by Hampshire team-mates Joe Weatherley, who will skipper the Under-19’s, and Academy leg spinner Mason Crane on the Australia trip. The Ageas Bowl trio will look to be in England’s starting line-up for the 4-day International match against Australia Under-19s – skippered by Bashley (Rydal) left-hander Jaron Morgan – at the WACA on Easter Monday.
