Ben Walker fired his second century of the season against Alton, but then found himself a frustrated captain as Havant were unable to force a victory against the Brewers, who had been largely out-played.
Walker, pictured, followed up his 125 at the Jubilee Ground in May with a Southern Premier Division best 156 which underpinned Havant’s towering 307-7.
But despite having Aton on the ropes at 59-5, Havant were unable to press home their superiority in a 65-over bowling stint as the visitors recovered to force a draw at 165-8.
Walker hit 16 boundaries in his personal best score and shared a prolific 162-run third-wicket partnership with Stuart Ransley (74) as Havant batted the Brewers out of the game.
Julian Ballinger, the SPL’s leading wicket-taker in 2015, wheeled away to finish with figures of 5-98.
Richard Jerry (3-11) put Alton in the mire, but while the left-arm spin of Chris Morgan (5-46) prised wickets, so Scott Myers (59) and Joe Paul (29) dug in and denied their hosts a win
Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley launched a five-wicket rescue bid but was unable to spare tottering St Cross Symondians from a fourth successive Premier Division defeat against New Milton at the Green Jackets Ground.
Weatherley took 5-34, but was unable to remove one-time Academy all-rounder James Haggaty, whose unbeaten 37 averted a total middle-order collapse and got the Green & Golds across the line.
St Cross were shaping up nicely at 90-2 but the dismissal of Weatherley (26) sent wickets tumbling, principally to Joe Hall, who returned 5-25.
Louis Kimber (31) top scored for the Winchester club, who were dismissed for 141, the last seven wickets falling for 21 runs.
New Milton looked to have matters in hand at 72-2 (Tom Arnold 29), but Weatherley’s spell put St Cross right back in the frame and but for Haggaty’s rescue act, aided by Lee Beck, the hosts might have won. New Milton celebrated a third straight win at 142-7.
