Ventnor’s relegation was inevitable some time ago, but skipper Rob Snell reckons the experience his young players are gaining from Premier Division cricket is invaluable.
The eight-wicket defeat by Alton at Newclose was Ventnor’s 13th in succession.
“But we fielded seven teenagers and whilst I accept it’s no fun losing every week, they will all benefit enormously from the opportunities they are getting,” Snell said.
“We can’t accept them to compete on a weekly basis, but almost every match one of them stands up and makes his mark – and that’s got to be encouraging.”
Young Ben Herridge, who made a steady 40 at the top of the order, showed his potential with a tidy knock which helped Ventnor post 213-8 against the Brewers.
The main substance of the innings came from Australian Alex Glendenning (56) and Snell, with 36.
Toby Corbin struck an early blow for Ventnor, but Dan Hutton (86) and Scott Myers added 174 before the islanders enjoyed another success. Myers (65) and Michael Heffernan (26) completed the formalities.
