Hampshire spin prospect Brad Taylor enjoyed a creditable 3-78 return, but his England Under-19 side is struggling to save the Youth Test against Australia at the WACA. Dismissed for a disappointing 172, England found themselves 283 runs in arrears after Australia amassed 455-7 declared in reply. Opener Sam Heazlett (160) and Jake Doran (169) shared a double century fourth wicket stand before both perished to Taylor’s off-spin. Taylor, who sent down 22 overs in the Perth heat, broke the partnership by bowling Heazlett before having wicketkeeper Tom Healy caught for 66. The Academy offie, who has made two senior appearances for Hampshire, later trapped Doran for 169. England trimmed 38 runs off the first innings deficit by stumps on the second day, with Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley 14 not out. They will begin the third day 245 runs behind but with all their second innings wickets intact.
