Hursley Park have enlisted Zimbabwean Bothwell Chapungu to help turn around their ailing Southern Electric Premier League fortunes.
The 27-year old left-hand batsman and off-spin bowler plays for MidWest Rhinos in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup competition.
He has made over 2,000 runs, but has yet to make a century. His best score this year was 75 against Mountaineers, who are coached by the former Burridge and Zimbabwe cricketer Gary Brent.
Chapungu, who arrived this week after a tortuous ride to Harare airport, will make his full Hursley Park debut against Sparsholt at The Quarters. He got his first taste of English conditions in the Winchester & District Midweek League.
It’s a vital game for both clubs, with Hursley anchored to the SPL2 basement after five straight defeats and Sparsholt, struggling for runs, two places above them.
Skipper Andy Worth returns from injury to lead a Sparsholt side skittled for 59 by promotion chasing Paultons last week.
Sparsholt: Worth, Ruffell, Gough, Vokes, Tognarelli, Foster, Dilley, Dunford, N Doubell, M Doubell, M Ballands.
