Sixty seasons after Derek Tulk made his solitary County Championship appearance against Tom Graveney’s Gloucestershire at Northlands Road, 16-year old grandson Harry celebrated a maiden century for the family club, Old Tauntonians & Romsey.
He made a career-best 107 in OTs’ win over Fareham & Crofton – his maiden ton setting up a 49-run for the County Division 1 newcomers.
Appropriately Derek, a fine exponent of seam and off-spin bowling in the dominant Old Tauntonians’ side of the Seventies, was on hand to buy his grandson the celebratory jug !
Harry is the teenage son of left-hander Stuart Tulk and nephew Ian, who both played in the OTs side which won the old Southern League title back in 1989.
