A potential third place finish in the ECB Southern Premier League is on offer for the Hampshire Academy, whose meeting with Bournemouth at Chapel Gate on Saturday (1130) will probably decide who gets the next place slot behind champions designate South Wilts and St Cross Symondians.
The Young Hawks are third after beating Bashley (Rydal) by 60 runs on one of the hybrid surfaces at the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground – Bash finding themselves with too much to do after the Hampshire youngsters had posted an intimidating 320 run tally after Michael Porter had put them into bat.
Hampshire Academy started well, adding 40-runs for the opening wicket when Rhodes Franklin caught Winchester College opener Wilf La Fontaine Jackson (10) off the bowling of Josh Digby (2-42).
Charlie Mumford (48) and Toby Albert added another 34-run stand for the second wicket before wicketkeeper Harry Fisher caught Mumford off Mitchell Wilson (1-49).
With the hosts on 74-2, Albert (71) and Harry Broderick (79) produced a 136-run stand to put Hampshire Academy firmly in control at 210-3.
Helpful contributions from Millfield pair Joseph Eckland (32) and Dom Kelly (30) left Bashley chasing 320.
Openers Digby (13) and Franklin (13) started well before they fell one run apart to leave the visitors on 32-2. Captain Porter (54) attempted to steady the ship with Ben Francis (18), adding 45 runs for the third wicket, before La Fontaine Jackson caught the latter off the bowling of James Barker (2-61).
Once Porter succumbed to the same combination of La Fontaine Jackson and Barker, the visitors found themselves on 144-4.
The enterprising Jacob Gordon chaffeured himself to 59, but with Stroud (32) being the only other batsmen to score more than 20 runs, Bashley fell well short despite notching a creditable 260 runs from 46.4 overs.
