Hampshire’s young Academy side lie in third place, only 11 points adrift of ECB Southern Premier League leaders South Wilts after a 60-run win over St Cross Symondians on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
The margin of victory was comfortable in the end, but St Cross bowled well in the morning session and reduced the Academy to 98-5 before Felix Organ and Tom Prest tilted the balance with a key sixth wicket partnership.
Steve Mitchell (2-14) took wickets in consecutive balls before Organ found some support from Tom Scriven and Fletcha Middleton.
Organ, who played his junior club cricket at St Cross, went on to make 95 and added 73 with Canford prospect Tom Prest (39) before Harry Foyle (4-47) and Harry Came ended the innings at 205.
Scriven (4-22) got among the early St Cross batsmen, reducing the visitors to 44-3 before Came (35) propped things up.
At 72-5, St Cross were in serious danger of going under, but Harry Foyle (35) found a reliable partner in teenager Alex Ayers (29), the pair denying the Academy any further inroads until the last five wickets tumbled for 16 runs and the innings ended at 145 all out.
