Chasing a massive 345-2 in 45 overs probably wasn't what Andy Steggall had in mind when he invited Sussex to bat in the Hampshire Seniors' opening National Sixties Championship match at Sparsholt.
Gordon Morgan (174) and Martyn Ford (128) filled their boots as 41 fours and three sixes were struck in a batting bonanza.
Geoff Beale, with 105, responded in Hampshire's 244-5 reply, Alan Whitman (62) and Keith Harsham (42) gave support, Hampshire cutting the margin of defeat to 101 runs in a match which yielded one shy of 600 runs for the loss of only five wickets. Not a bad track : no wonder Sparsholt won the 2024 Southern Premier Ground of the Year award in 2024 !
Next up for the Sixties is Middlesex at Southgate on Tuesday.
