All eyes will be on Bournemouth’s home match against Premier Division champions South Wilts – the first time Chapel Gate will have hosted an ECB Southern Premier League match since the abandonment of the Hook & Newnham Basics curtain raiser on May 7.
That game lasted 14.2 overs before the umpires declared the surface “unsafe” for the players and called the match off.
Since then there’s been a flurry of activity with the ECB’s Southern Regional Pitch Inspector called in and his findings relayed to Bournemouth University - who, as land owners, are responsible for ground and pitch preparation – and the Southern Premier League.
Recently, Dorset’s County Pitch Advisor, Stuart Antell has been on-site working part-time and advising the University’s groundstaff. The proof of the pudding comes after 12.30 tomorrow !
Neither Bournemouth captain Chris Park or Ben Draper, his South Wilts counterpart, will relish winning the mid-day toss.
Significantly, Bournemouth are without main strike bowler Dan Conway – teenage quick Matt King comes in – and injured opening batsman Oli Shrubsole. Matt Robinson comes in to a youthful looking side.
South Wilts also have injury problems, with James Hayward (hamstring) and Ben Huntley (shoulder) sidelined. But the potentially influential Jack Mynott is back and will sharpen up the fielding.
