Alton have managed to nail down a South African provincial overseas player for the upcoming ECB Southern Premier League campaign - at the third attempt !
Earlier this calendar year, they thought they had secured the services of, firstly, former SA Under-19 cricketer Thando Ntini and then, when he pulled out, Easterns all-rounder Matthew Arnold. But he too found he was unable to come, so the Brewers turned to seasoned Eastern Province seamer Bash Walters, pictured above, who has arrived in the UK and is currently isolating. The 34-year old had been due to play for Havant last season.
Alton lost their opening warm-up match by 25 runs at Wokingham, where one-time Hampshire U17 all-rounder Andy Rishton made 89 of the Berkshire club's 236-3. Recent Hampshire recruit Fletcha Middleton made an unbeaten 104 in Alton's 211-5, with the promising Jude Wright scoring 34.
