Fetch that ! Aneurin Donald lofts one of his seven sixes [Roy Honeybone]
Welshman Aneurin Donald will play his first game of competitive cricket since September 2019 when he plays for Hampshire seconds in the opening four-day Second XI County Championship match against Durham on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground on Monday, 11am.
But, on the evidence of his big hitting against Solent University at South Wilts in midweek, he’s not lost the knack of hitting a cricket ball a long way !
He plundered an unbeaten 71 off just 28 balls – seven huge sixes soared over the Bemerton leg-side boundary – after teenagers Tom Prest (107) and Fletcha Middleton (81) had put on 178 for the first wicket.  Hampshire IIs made 314-5 off 40 overs, with Solent managing 161-7 in reply.
It was Donald’s first proper work out since ripping his ACL playing five-a-side soccer with some of his Hampshire team-mates one September evening well over two years ago.
Hampshire’s probable line-up against Durham tomorrow will include Worcestershire’s ‘white ball’ signing Ross Whiteley, making his first appearance in Hawks colours.
Probable team: Prest, Middleton, Albert, Donald, Whiteley, Currie, Mumford, Crane, Wheal, Turner, Huntley, Croom.
