Fetch that ! Babu smacks another six (Roy Honeybone)
Andover’s Babu Veettil smashed an astonishing 99 runs off 48 deliveries as the St Cross Symondians’ second team attack, skipper Dave Orchard in particular, came under fire at the Green Jackets ground.
Arriving at the crease with Andover already nicely placed at 105-2 through Matt Knight (53) and Sam Ashman (43), Veettil made the most of his promotion up the order by tearing the St Cross bowling to shreds.
Targeting cow corner at the church end of the ground, he cleared the boundary rope six times and hit eight fours, scoring 68 of his runs in boundaries. Bowling to near roadside boundary, Orchard had to fetch the ball out of the undergrowth three times in one over.
He was one run shy of a blistering hundred when Matt Graves trapped him leg before wicket.
Andover’s 235-7 proved too many for St Cross, who made 156 all out in reply, Dave Orchard (38), Jason Laney (31) and Ben Foster (30) top scoring. Spinner Charlie Ayers took 3-24.
Despite their maximum point win, Andover remain bottom of SPL1, 17 points adrift of the nearest safety rung.
