Back from their respective universities, Sway were more than grateful to Bailey twins, Dan (38 not out) and Josh (34) for their match winning stand which secured a much needed victory over Jubilee Fields visitors Hartley Wintney.
Sway’s bowling attack was mean and unrelenting. Ed Philpott (30) did manage what might just have been the beginnings of a mid-order Hartley revival - until Hugh Bernard rearranged his stumps. However, the damage was already largely done.
The visitors were dumped for a meagre 122, no other batsman reaching 18. Opening the bowling, Scrooge-like Jon Waller’s unerring away swing was unplayable: 10 overs 2-16. There were wickets too for Dave Steadman 2-30, Jon Grasham 1-8, Rich Thomas 1-26. Spinner Olly Marshall bagged a late 3-11.
Sway openers Will Millard [14] and John Walter were seemingly in control, until both departed in quick succession: 41-2.
The Bailey double act that followed saw a succession of refreshing hard hitting, 10 boundaries between them, so putting the outcome beyond doubt. Sway 123-3 with 23 overs to spare and back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.
