Teenage Bashley (Rydal) wicketkeeper Patrick Lewis has etched his name into the ECB annals on the back of a stunning display behind the stumps for Dorset in the Under-17 County Championships.
His eight dismissals playing for Dorset against Berkshire at Wokingham is believed to be the best ever individual performance for a wicketkeeper in the national Under-17 competition.
The Highcliffe Sixth Form College student, who got into cricket as a seven-year old, snapped up seven catches, four of them standing up, and took a smart leg-side stumping before narrowly missing out on a half-century with the bat when Dorset replied to Berkshire’s 325, Hamworthy’s Jack Gordon taking 5-63.
Lewis hit 47 as Dorset replied with 250, Canford’s Anthony Graham hitting an unbeaten 105 and Bashley’s James Turner 30.
