Teenage Basingstoke & North Hants prospect Neil Shelar has won the prestigious Peter Lewin Memorial Bowl after being named Hampshire Under-15s cricketer of the year.
He scored over 600 runs for the county, including an unbeaten 103 against Somerset and four other 60-plus knocks, during a summer in which he pillaged a staggering aggregate of 1,657 runs in all junior and senior cricket. Shelar played regularly for Basingstoke & North Hants seconds in the Southern Premier League Division 3.
Shelar was also leading run scorer in Hampshire’s ECB Under-15 Cup group, playing a significant role as the side won all eight of its 50-over county games. They also played five early season 100-ball format games.
Havant all-rounder Charlie Whitfield and Ben Foster (St Cross Symondians) both batted consistently, while hit Canford prospect Eddie Jack and Ryde’s Will Mew were arguably the pick of the bowlers.
