Experienced Basingstoke umpire Paul Turner spent five hours in A & E after being struck just above the ankle during St Cross Symondians' ECB T20 run blitz against Wimborne.
He bravely stood for the remainder of the St Cross innings but withdrew from active duty soon after. He stayed and watched the remainder of the play but checked in for X-rays later. No bones broken but some nasty bruising was the initial prognosis.
"The hospital has subsequently reviewed the X-rays and have spotted a hairline fracture," Turner said.
Paul was lucky and as one spectator admitted: "It was pretty much a perfect straight drive by Felix Organ. It went like a rocket and sounded like a rifle crack when it hit Paul’s ankle."
