South African paceman Marvin Williams took four wickets and Billy Mead hit an unbeaten half-century as St Cross Symondians steamrollered the Hampshire Academy by eight wickets on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
They rolled the Academy out for 87 in less than 32 overs before polishing off the target in barely an hour. Champions St Cross lie third in the log going into the back nine games.
Simon Beetham (2-16) struck the initial blows, but Tom Prest (19) hung around till 41-2, whereupon the Academy promptly lost five wickets for a meagre five runs. George Pardoe (15) was the only other batsman to make double figures as Williams (4-27) and Harry Foyle (2-13) bowled the county crop out for 87.
Scoring an unbeaten 53 was significant for Billy Mead, pictured, last year’s Marlborough College captain, who broken his thumb playing for the MCC YCs in May and only just returned to fitness. He hit a six and eight fours in his unbeaten half-century.
