Basingstoke & North Hants are bottom of the ECB Southern Premier Division after a winless start in 50-over ‘white ball’ cricket.
The 48-run defeat by the Hampshire Academy was their third defeat in four outings (the round three match against Burridge was abandoned) and leaves them bottom of the pile with only 18 points.
Ironically, it was the Basingstoke raised teenager George Metzger (left)(59) whose half-century under-pinned the Academy’s 199 all out at Newclose.
The county youngsters were in some strife at 134-6 and later 162-8 (Joe Oates 3-39), but the lower-order rallied through Mo Abbas (23), Ajeet Dale, and last pair Kamra Khanna (14) and Charlie Freeston (18), who added a precious 26.
Run scoring has been a problem all season for Basingstoke, seven of whose batsmen made starts but only David Griffiths (27) getting beyond 25. They were dismissed for 151.
