Prolific Western Province CC batsman/wicketkeeper Ben Van Der Merwe [above] is expected to give Bournemouth's top order a significant boost in the ECB Southern Premier Division this summer.
He will join the Chapel Gate set after a successful season in top Cape Town cricket where 704-run haul included two WPCA League centuries.
Van Der Merwe is a WPCC team-mate of Hambledon's Justin Behrens, who emphasised "Ben is very talented top order batsman and wicket keeper. He can hit one of the biggest balls I’ve ever seen - don’t let his height deceive you!
"He is a very calm and down to earth individual. Ben has always had strong professional cricket ambitions and I have no doubt he is talented enough to achieve his goals.
"He will be of great value for Bournemouth this year and I’m really looking forward to following his season.”
Also joining Bournemouth is left-arm seamer James Brehaut, whose 26-wicket haul helped Taunton Deane win last season's WEPL Somerset League. He is originally from Horsham and until recently taught at King's Taunton.
