Tom Arnold maintained his status at the leading run scorer in the Voneus Village Cup with a match winning 74 in Bramshaw’s county semi-final victory over Sparsholt at the Norman Edwards Ground.
He’s made 266 runs in the first three rounds, his 74 following 82 against Paultons and an unbeaten 111 in the victory over Easton & Martyr Worthy.
Arnold (pictured above) hit two sixes and ten fours, sharing a useful opening stand with James Booth (29) before Charlie Anderson weighed in with a handy 27 not out to push Bramshaw’s tea time score to 180-6.
Dan Sumner took a belated 5-30 for Sparsholt, whose batting failed to fire and, after a three-wicket blast by Michael Kingston (3-14), they were lagging behind at 98-7.
Oli Williams (37) and Josh May (31) gave them hope, but Hampshire 50s prospect Zane De Monte took 3-38 to leave them 137 all out.
Bramshaw host 2021 Village Cup winners Calmore Sports in the Hampshire final on Sunday week, June 5, following the cup holders’ emphatic eight-wicket win over Ventnor in the Steephill bowl.
It looked as though Calmore might have a hard job on their hands when Ventnor posted 190, but the Lord’s winners simply blew the target away – Ben Johns racking up an unbeaten century as they won with almost 12 overs to spare !
Left-hander Johns hit a six and 12 fours and, with Shaun Johnson hitting 46 not out, swept Calmore to victory in good time for the car ferry.
Johnson earlier took 4-48 and Dan Croft 3-19, while Souvak Sanyal (47) and Mark Fletcher (46) top scored for the islanders.
Liphook & Ripsley and Rowledge were both knocked out, only Ryan Covey (40) making an impact as the beaten 2019 Lord’s finalists were rushed out for 96 at Findon, who won by five wickets.
Blackheath’s 233-5 at Church Road was centred around a splendid 126 by Pete Melhuish, whose second wicket stand with Harry Bardon (66) effectively batted Rowledge out of the game.
Talented Oli Ryman took 3-45 and later scored 44, his sixth-wicket stand of 68 with Oli Baker (45) lifting Rowledge to a respectable 204-8.
Chalke Valley, situated a few miles outside of Salisbury saw their cup dreams ended in a 69-run defeat by WEPL Division 1 side Winsley, who made 264-5. Joe Weld hit a brave 84 as Chalke Valley made 195-9 in reply.
