The new ball had a significant impact at Botley Road, where Burridge lost their first four wickets for only 13 runs and visitors Alton fared even worse, with half their side back in the pavilion with only 29 on the board.
The difference was that Burridge recovered to make 175 and Alton didn’t, the Brewers being bowled out for 97 and beaten by 78 runs.
When Dan Scott (2-16) knocked over Joe Colling-Wells and Chris Blake first ball and then Academy loanee Tom South (2-29) bowled  opener Jack Paskins and Hilio De Abreu, Burridge sank to 13-4.
Azim Chowdhury (41) began the recovery in a sixth-wicket stand with Dan Damley-Jones (28), but Burridge were still deep in trouble on 117-7 before Dan Stancliffe (16), Mo Abbas (20) and Sully White (28) – all more than capable lower-order batsmen - boosted the total to 175 all out.
Alton’s top order crumbled almost as easily as Burridge’s had done, with White [left](3-16) and Stancliffe (2-20) did the damage as Alton crashed to 29-5, Michael Heffernan, and teenage pair Freddie Egleston and Jude Wright bagging ducks.
Scott Myers (37) added some respectability to Alton’s eventual 97 all out, Abbas (3-17) removing the Brewers’ top scorer before taking the last two wickets.
