LIPHOOK and Ripsley progressed into the Hampshire Regional Final of the National Village Cup for the third consecutive season with a comprehensive victory against Sparsholt at Ripsley Park.
A swashbuckling 41-ball 88, which featured seven fours and as many towering sixes, by Liphook’s George Neave was the main difference between the two sides.
Liphook started slowly thanks to miserly spells from seamers Dave Banks and Mike Howarth, although Harry Munt (29) and Rob Nicklin (19) managed to put on 42 for the second wicket.
It was the introduction of spin which caused wickets to fall in sharp succession, with Sparsholt’s Liam Doran taking 6-57.
The wickets didn’t stop the attacking instincts of Neave, who prospered as others faltered. While Neave was at the wicket the Liphook total moved from 58 to 173, with Neave scoring the majority of the runs. He was eventually dismissed and Liphook were bowled out for 177.
Sparsholt opener and skipper Jeremy Frith was dismissed by Suman Ganguly (2-17) for a duck, but fellow opener Mike Howarth scored a 50-ball 24.
Once Howarth was brilliantly caught by Sean Burton, the Sparsholt batting failed to impress.
Spinner Oscar Amis starred with figures of 4-18, and there were also wickets for Andy Barnes (2-31), Harry Munt (1-1) and Burton (1-8) as Sparsholt were bowled out for 99 in the 28th over.
The remainder of the local sides in the NVC bowed out with Parley losing to Burbage & Easton Royal, Redlynch & Hale conceding a thumping 308-4 at Goatacre, and Rowledge being knocked out by East Horsley.
