St Cross Symondians will be virtually assured a second consecutive ECB Southern Premier League championship - and a fourth in nine seasons - if they beat South Wilts when 50-over 'white ball' cricket returns to the Mike Adams Field at the Green Jackets ground on Saturday, 11am.
Already winners of the Time pennant by a colossal 66 point margin, St Cross take an overall 29-point Premier Division lead into the South Wilts match.
"If we win, we'll be more or less there but we've had some epic past duels with South Wilts and after thrashing Bournemouth, their confidence will be sky high, " warned St Cross captain Ed Ellis.
South Wilts skittled Bournemouth for 98 before racing to a nine-wicket win, while St Cross were inflicting a crushing 211-run defeat on Portsmouth.
St Cross dominated from start to finish, posting 276-6 before shooting Portsmouth out for a paltry 65 - the third successive occasion they have been bundled out for less than 100 by the league champions.
Felix Organ, now the SPD's lead scorer with 522 runs, complied his fourth 50 in six innings and featured in three half-century stands, initially with Gregor McKenzie (38) and Dom Kelly (43). Radley College spinner Ben De Laszlo took two wickets in two balls before Organ (75) joined Jack Bransgrove (66).
Byron Langley (3-17), who has proved quite a find since joining from Putney, quickly rearranged Portsmouth's top order as the Southsea club lurched to 28-4.
