Cole Rushforth belted 68 off 49 balls to turn the tide of Bournemouth's eventual 39-run win over double ECB Southern Premier League champions St Cross Symondians at Winchester's Green Jackets ground.
Beset by hamstring injuries last season, Rushforthhas established himself as one of the SPL's lead all-rounders this term and certainly played a key role in this victory.
Rj Jhala (43) and Simon Woodruff (41) eased the Lions to 148-5 when Rushford, aided by Tom Robinson (38), sent the score rocketing to 283-8.
Rushforth then had master blaster Gregor McKenzie caught behind by Ben Van Der Merwe for a single in the first over of the title winners’ reply.
It was 32-2 when Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson, fresh from hitting 181 on his Sussex 2nds debut, was bowled by Josiah Edy for 14.
Monam Abbas (76) top scored as St Cross closed on 244-9, only their second loss of the season.
Bournemouth’s total (Charlie Gwynn 3-43, which puts him third leading wicket taker in the
Premier Division) was too much for St Cross to chase although at various points in the reply it looked possible. Monam Abbas anchored our innings and shared useful partnerships with Jack Bransgrove (20), Gaz Schreuder (25) and Harry Trussler (29).
After Monam was bowled, an 8th wicket stand of 41 in quick time was promising, only for Byron Langley (30 off 15 balls, with two 6s and two 4s) to find himself at the same end as Nav Dubey in running confusion..
