Jake Wish (right) may be captaining Rowledge for the remainder of a promotion chasing Southern Premier League Division 2 season after his elder brother Ben broke his collar bone during a rugby training session in Australia. Wish senior is with his school team in Brisbane and Sydney for two weeks, but was almost on the next flight home after picking up his injury on day two of the trip. But Ben has every confidence in his sibling brother leading Rowledge for the final five matches of the season - his spell with the captain's armband having begun on a triumphant note with a key 112-run win over Waterlooville, a result which cements the Hampshire/Surrey border club in second place behind Sparsholt. Ricky Yates (80) and David Lloyd (48) took Rowledge to 195, a total the Ville seldom threatened after left-armer Jake's own spell of 5-12 with the new ball. * Ben Wish is pictured above (by Bob Selley) stumping Sparsholt skipper Jerry Frith two weeks ago. |
