David Banks has become the first Southern Premier League cricketer to score 9,000 runs.
He reached the milestone last weekend scoring 47 in a lost Sparsholt cause against Division 1 rivals Rowledge and, in a career spanning 21 seasons, has clocked up 9,029 runs in 283 knocks (40 of which were not outs) at an average of 37.16. Banks has so far notched 19 centuries, 65 fifth-plus scores, with a top score of 150. His best season was in 2010 when he made 781 runs. He has topped 500 runs in a season on six separate occasions, also taking 229 wickets and snapping up 245 catches.
A serial championship winner, Banks collected four Premier Division winners medals with BAT Sports and in all spent 11seasons at Southern Gardens, where he also won T20 awards. In five subsequent seasons at Sarisbury Athletic he collected Division 1 championship medals in 2012 and 2014 and helped Sparsholt win the Division 2 title in 2018.
