Sri Lankan Dineth Thimodya took his Ventnor run tally surging past the 3,000 mark, scoring his eighth Southern Premier League century in the nine-wicket demolition of Division 1 rivals Waterlooville at Steephill.
The left-hander hit an unbeaten 122 as Ventnor made short shrift of the Ville’s 213, winning with six overs to spare to kick start their 175th anniversary season in style.
Thimodya hit four sixes and 15 fours and shared a double-century stand with Dan Cox, who finished 77 not out. Ville’s innings had been based around opener Charlie Whitfield, late of Havant, who made 60.
