Thomas Dyer hit three sixes as Hook & Newnham Basics hit an astonishing 31 runs off Euan Rixon's final over to beat Old Basing by four wickets and claim a place in next Tuesday evening's Guy Jewell Trophy semi-final against Basingstoke & North Hants.
It looked all up for Hook when Dyer and Charlie Neville took guard for the final over with Basics 178-6 and needing a cricketing miracle to beat Old Basing's  208-6.
But Rixon's initial delivery was a 'no ball' which off Dyer promptly hit for six.  Hook 185-6.
The next 'proper' ball got the identical six treatment from Dyer, who then clouted a four and another six off the second a third balls of Rixon's fateful last over. 16 runs : Hook 201-6 off 19.3 overs. Seven to win.
Dyer notched a single off the fourth ball to hand the responsibility baton to Neville, who then scored a two. Hook 203-6.
Rixon's fifth ball was another wide which flashed past the outstretched arms of the Old Basing wicketkeeper for five to give Hook an improbable victory.
Earlier, Hari Shanker-Sah (78) and John-Paul Neal (57) made runs for Old Basing, while Jordan Hobday hit 65 in his first Hook innings in almost a year.
