England Under-19s, aided by Hampshire Academy pair Eddie Jack and Ben Mayes, are on the brink of a Youth Test Series clinching victory over their South African counterparts in Cape Town.
At stumps on day three and towards the end of their second innings, South Africa were only 16 runs ahead with just two wickets standing, leaving England poised for victory.
Jack took 3-42, including the scalp of top scorer Paul James (84) as South Africa was initially dismissed for 224, a total England substantially overhauled with Middlesex prospect Aaryan Sawant hitting 130 and enjoying useful stands with Mayes (26) and later Jack.
The young Proteas, facing a first innings deficit of 129, sank to 145-8, Millfield’s Archie Vaughan (son of ..) exploiting the spin friendly conditions with a 5-18 return.
