Teenage Fareham & Crofton left-hand opener Robbie Blakewell got in a spot of run scoring ahead of his GCSE maths paper this week by making an, as yet, highest Southern Premier League score against Division 3 rivals St Cross Symondians II at the Green Jackets.
Having featured in a century opening partnership with Tom Kent (54), Blakewell was 77 not out (ten fours) when the match was abandoned with Fareham handily placed at 153-1.
It was the third time this season Blakewell has made a mark with his bat. He hit a half-century in the curtain raising win at Gosport Borough and then 41 against high flying Sparsholt. With 15 overs still to bat, Blakewell might easily have made another 23 runs and been celebrating a maiden SPL hundred come tea-time. But the season is still young and he'll have plenty more opportunities to make runs. That's after Wednesday's maths exam ...
Fifteen years or so ago Alex Styles was a rising star at Gosport Borough before moving on to play for Burridge in the Premier Division. He hadn't played any SPL cricket since 2016 - until last weekend when he answered an SOS from the depleted Borough. But he dusted off his kit and marked his comeback with 78 at Paultons. He was largely responsible for Borough's rain cut 143-6 at Whitemoor Lane.
Alton II were washed out after making 130-7 against Odiham & Greywell, while Oli Spink toasted a maiden 50 as Hursley Park made 177 v Hook & Newnham Basics II.
